About Me

About Me

I’ve been taking photographs now for probably nearly 15 years. Photography is something I will never grow tired of, because of the multitude of genres, there is always something else to look at or try.

My first memorable experience with a camera was when I went on a camping holiday with my parents, driving to the South of France. I can remember pointing the camera out of the car window and clicking shots of random scenes. Waiting for the photos to arrive in the post afterwards was an anxious experience, would there be anything on the film? What moments could I freeze in time? I still get the same buzz waiting to view my images today.

I shoot with both digital and film cameras now-a-days and always have a camera of some sort on me wherever I go. Photography has become a way of life for me and most definitely not just a 9-5 job. I like to keep my work and personal photography varied, this keeps me inspired and driven to always better myself.

I started offering photography tuition around 2008, when someone asked me at an exhibition I was having whether I knew anyone who offered it. I explained that perhaps I could help and offered them the first 1-2-1 workshop! After this first training session the client was really happy that they got to learn what they needed to know and I got a tremendous buzz from seeing them enjoy getting to grips with their camera and photography. I was hooked!

Since then I have co-run a local photography training firm called Nova Photography and I now offer photography tuition on my own.

I have been published in printed magazines, online magazines and collaboration projects:

I live in Crowborough with my wife, two young children, two cats and two dogs! and we enjoy exploring the Sussex countryside and also holidaying around the UK, visiting new places.

I also enjoy cycling and I have recently completed an adventure, cycling from my home in Crowborough, East Sussex to Lands End in Cornwall.

You can keep up-to-date with what I’m up to by following me…

Google+
Google+ is a relatively new ‘social media’ platform and I think it works really well for photographers. The photography community seems to have really latched on to it and are using it to share information and photos.
Another great feature of Google+ is that you can select who to to share with by creating ‘circles’. So you can create a ‘circle’ for ‘photographers’ and when you write a post or share something you can select just who you want to see it. Great if you want to share some family photos with just your family and not everyone in your contacts! There is lots of other functionality too, but I’m sure you can find that out for yourself. If you click the Google+ title it will take you to my profile and you can add me to a circle yourself.

Facebook Page
You either love it or hate it, but Facebook is a good way of staying in touch with people, whether that’s friends, family or your favourite clubs and organisations. If you’re on Facebook you might consider dropping by to my Facebook Page for Andrew Newson Photography Tuition and ‘Liking’ the page. If you click on the ‘like’ button it just means it’s easier for me to stay in touch with you to let you know what new courses and events I am running. Things that I post in my page will appear on your wall. Perhaps if you have had tuition from me already you might consider writing me a review in the ‘reviews’ section.

Twitter
Twitter is a huge community and I tweet on a fairly regular basis. If you are already on Twitter you may consider ‘following’ me, you can do that by clicking on the ‘Twitter’ title and start following me.

Flickr
I’m a huge Flickr addict and have been for some years now. With nearly 3,000 images and over 100,000 views, my stream is more like a scrapbook of ideas, snapshots and previews of larger bodies of work. Come and say hi.

Blog
I use the blog here on my website to write about all photographic related things. I will be doing regular posts about technical and creative aspects of photography, details of exhibitions, inspirational photography online etc. Feel free to join in and add comments if you have questions or something to say.
