What's this then?
I have another exciting trip to Paris planned for April 2016. This one takes the form of a full day photography workshop on Saturday 9th and an image review over breakfast on Sunday 10th April.
Who am I?
The photography course will not concentrate on just one area of photography but instead look at a few different genres and will include all the technical help with camera settings that you need.
The course is suited to those who wish to learn more about their camera settings or just want to be more creative with their photography whilst enjoying a stunning city.
The cost of the workshop is £120 and this includes 4x metro journey tickets for getting around the city.
You will be responsible for booking your flights/train and your accommodation.
Meals and refreshments are not included in the price of the workshop.
I recommend that you book two nights in a hotel as near to Place de Clichy as possible. This area makes a good base, it has quite a few bars and restaurants for evening meals and is close to the metro station.
Evening Meal - 8.30pm (Place de Clichy)
This meal is optional but it's quite nice to meet everyone and relax after the journey.
Optional Early Walk - 7.30am (Place de Clichy)
A short 1 hour walk around Place de Clichy for some of the best light.
If you are not an early bird you can skip this part and instead meet for breakfast at 8.30am.
Breakfast - 8.30am (Place de Clichy)
We will start the day the French way with pastries and coffee at a nearby Patisserie before heading out for a day of photography.
We will stop to purchase ourselves sandwiches which we can have later for lunch.
The day will include a fair amount of walking and you will need to be reasonably fit. It's a good idea to have some comfortable trainers too. We will definitely utilise public transport too so we can see as much of the city as possible.
Lunch - 1pm-2pm approx
We will aim to place ourselves somewhere interesting, a museum or photography exhibition at around lunchtime. We can take some time out when the light will a little harsh and have our lunch. For those that want to we can have a look around an exhibition/museum or museum.
The afternoon will be more walking in a different area and hopefully the light will start to get a little softer.
5.30pm - Close
We aim to finish back at Place de Clichy around 5.30pm.
Optional Evening Walk - 5.30pm-7.30pm
I quite expect some to be exhausted by this stage so just like the early morning walk this one is completely optional.
8pm - Dinner (Place de Clichy)
A nice way to round off the day is meeting for dinner and enjoy some nice food, a glass of whatever you fancy and talk about the day's events.
Everyone who wants to participate in the slideshow and image review can either pass their memory cards to me so I can download their images to my laptop or you are welcome to bring your own laptop/tablet to show your images on.
Breakfast Image Review - 9.30am (Place de Clichy)
We will meet for breakfast and there will be a slideshow of images from each participant. We would like to limit this slideshow to around 40 or 50 images each. I'll encourage each participant to talk a little about their images and if they would like a critique I will do my best to help.
After breakfast the rest of the day is yours to do as you wish.
Although I strongly recommend you look in to this yourself, we found that EasyJet were offering two flights a day to and from Paris and we paid around £100 each for return flights.
When arriving we shared a taxi from the airport to Place de Clichy and the overall cost was €55, but this may well vary!
On our return journey we found a bus (Roissy Bus) that runs from Opéra to the airport. Opéra is about a half an hour walk or a fairly short taxi or metro journey from Place de Clichy. The Roissy Bus to the airport was around €11 one way.
I believe that the Roissy Bus runs about every 15 minutes so it should be easy to arrange to get that from the airport to Place de Clichy upon arrival.
We didn't get the Eurostar this time but this will bring you in to la Gare du Nord station and is much closer to Place de Clichy. It is probably possible to walk or about 5 stops on the Metro with one change. The Eurostar will vary in cost but when booked in advance I would say on average it will cost about £150, maybe cheaper if you travel early in the morning or late at night.
I feel my strengths are in a number of areas. I can teach you how to control your camera for consistent results. Teaching framing and composition to get the most balanced images. How to get you to start seeing differently and find more unusual photos in situations that most will not recognise. Although I don't consider myself a street photographer as such, I feel I can offer some valuable insight and advice when photographing in this genre.
For those staying in Paris, you might want to book a late train/flight so you have Sunday to spend in Paris at your leisure.
1 Day Photography Day (Sat 9th April) - £120 (Deposit payment: £40)
