How To Post on Tumblr

For those new to Tumblr, this is a quick walk through of how to post and how to view your blog.

When you've set up your account, you will probably be taken to the 'Dashboard'. This is where you can control your blog, change settings etc, but most importantly it's where you create a post.

I have a number of Tumblr blogs, but at the moment you are looking at the dashboard for Quiet Discovery. See the tool bar in the white at the top, with Text, Photo, Quote etc. If you click Photo you will be given the option to click and add photos.

Here I have the option to add a photo and then the opportunity to add a caption...

I choose to add my name with the copyright symbol as the caption. You could choose to do the same and add any other notes you wish. I also chose to make my caption link to my website, like so...

I then click 'Insert Link' and then 'Post'. That's it done, your post is live. Exciting!

You will see your post within your dashboard, like so...

You'll not only see your posts in this view but posts by others that Tumblr thinks might be relevant to you. Also any posts from Tumblr blogs you decide to follow.

But now to view your blog as it actually looks to others, just click on the blog name at the top of the post, above the image.

What I see when I do that is this...

You'll also notice that whilst logged in, the buttons at the top right. One is for customise, where you can install a new template or tweak your existing one. Also a button for the dashboard to take to the area where you create your posts, as above.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Many thanks,
