Add To Cart

I’m really excited to bring you my Autumn photography workshop to Barcelona and Girona!

It is a fun and social trip where we will explore Barcelona and Girona whilst making great photographs. This course consists of two full days of photography with me on hand to give you expert tuition.

Everyone’s photos taken on the photography holiday will be made in to a beautiful photo book and sent to you after the event, included in the price.

Friday 25th October 2019 (5.30pm)

Montjuic Castle, Magic Fountain and Welcome Meal

We meet on the Friday evening at La Confiteria near the Paral lel Station Metro station. From there we will take the funicular railway part way up Montjuic and then the cable car right up to the castle at the top to take in some breathtaking views of Barcelona. Then we will take the cable car back down to the Magic Fountain and enjoy a meal and drinks whilst everyone gets to know each other. This is your opportunity to ask questions and of course I will be filling everyone in on the schedule for the weekend.

At 9pm we will head to the Magic Fountain to see the spectacular show of lights, music and of course water! After the show has finished we’ll head back to our hotels. What a great way to start the weekend!

(Included in the workshop price is the cable car and the funicular railway tickets.)

Saturday 26th October (9.00am)

Day trip to Girona
We will start by taking the train from Barcelona to the beautiful city of Girona to spend the day there making photographs and enjoying the culture and sights.

We will of course make time for lunch and dinner in Girona.

We will leave Barcelona in the morning and spend the whole day in Girona returning back to Barcelona for around 10pm.

Travel to Girona and back is included in the workshop price.

From Lonely Plant:

Welcome to Girona

Northern Catalonia’s largest city, Girona is a jewellery box of museums, galleries and Gothic churches, strung around a web of cobbled lanes and medieval walls. Reflections of Modernista mansions shimmer in the Riu Onyar, which separates the walkable historic centre on its eastern bank from the gleaming commercial centre on the west.

The Roman town of Gerunda lay on the Via Augusta from Gades (now Cádiz) to the Pyrenees. Taken from the Muslims by the Franks in the late 8th century, Girona became the capital of one of Catalonia’s most important counties, falling under the sway of Barcelona in the late 9th century. Girona’s wealth in medieval times produced many fine Romanesque and Gothic buildings that have survived repeated attacks, while a Jewish community flourished here until its expulsion in 1492.

Game of Thrones fans may recognise the cathedral amongst other places as Girona Cathedral became a star of season six of Game of Thrones as the set for Braavos, Oldtown and King's Landing.

Sunday 27th October

Barcelona City (9.00am-5.00pm)
On the Sunday we will get the most out of what Barcelona has to offer by taking a hop on hop off bus tour and getting off and key locations to take photographs. This means we can cut down the amount of walking and see as many locations as possible. We will of course stop for lunch about 1pm.

From Lonely Planet

Barcelona is an enchanting seaside city with boundless culture, fabled architecture and a world-class drinking and dining scene.

Barcelona's architectural treasures span 2000-plus years. Towering temple columns, ancient city walls and subterranean stone corridors provide a window into Roman-era Barcino. Fast forward a thousand years or so to the Middle Ages by taking a stroll through the shadowy lanes of the Gothic quarter, past tranquil plazas and soaring 14th-century cathedrals. In other parts of town bloom the sculptural masterpieces of Modernisme, a mix of ingenious and whimsical creations by Gaudí and his Catalan architectural contemporaries. Barcelona has also long inspired artists, including Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró, both of whom have major Barcelona museums devoted to their works.

Some sights we could stop at:
La Sagrada Familia
Casa Milà (La Pedrera)
Las Ramblas
La Boqueria

5.30pm - Back to hotels to freshen up

7.30pm - Meet for dinner (restaurant TBC)

Bus cost included in workshop price.

During the workshop we will discuss at length creating a group photobook. We will discuss how to take your photos, how to prepare them, also the importance of consistency and sequencing for maximum effect.

After the course you will have two weeks to submit your photos for the group photobook. Each person will have up to 20 sides in the book. You may choose to do a single photo per page, double page spreads or two photos per page or a mixture depending on how many photos you want to have included in the book. These images should be in high resolution format and will be numbered in the sequence you wish them to appear. I will then layout and arrange for the book to be printed and delivered to you.

So often we just leave our photos on our computers, but there is something really special about having a look back at our photos in a beautiful photobook. I hope that if you haven't created a photobook before that this will encourage you to do it more often.

The cost for this is £399 per person, you can choose to pay the full amount now or a £75 deposit now and then the balance 4 weeks before the workshop. Please make sure you read the Holiday T&Cs page before booking.

If you wish to bring a friend or partner with you but they are not into photography then we will discount the photography price by £150. If you are choosing to pay the full amount now then please use the code PARTNER to receive the discount. Alternatively you can opt to pay a deposit now (£75 per person) to secure your places and the discount will be applied on the balance, due 4 weeks before the date.

Please note that the price does not include travel, accommodation or meals. I would recommend you stay not too far from where we will be staying (TBC) as this will be our starting point will be each day. If you would like some guidance with booking hotels and travel please get in touch and I can help you.

My style of teaching is relaxed and I will not be looking over your shoulder every two minutes to make sure you're doing it right. I give you space to be creative and enjoy your photography, but should you need me then I am on hand to help you achieve the shots you want. If you don't want or need any tuition at all, then that is fine too.

*A reasonable level of fitness is required as we will be walking quite a lot.  If you can walk a distance of around 5-6 miles fairly comfortably then I would say you would be fine. We do take things quite slowly as we will be stopping to take photographs. If you are unsure please feel free to contact me to have a chat.
