Verona, Lake Garda & Rome
New for 2019 is the Italy Mini Tour Photography Trip where we will go to not one, not two but three Italian destinations.
This workshop consists of three full days of photography with me on hand to give you expert tuition. This is a fun and social trip where we will explore 3 locations in Italy whilst working on our photo book, both as a group and as individuals. The workshop will culminate in a beautiful photo book of the group's work.
Day 1 (evening) Meet in Verona
We meet on the Friday evening for dinner/drinks in Verona and a get to know each other and I can answer any questions you may have about your camera, settings etc.
Day 2 Photo Day in Lake Garda
On Saturday we travel from Verona to spend the day in beautiful Lake Garda. In 1921 Ezra Pound wrote to James Joyce from a pink-walled hotel that still today overlooks Sirmione's harbour on Lake Garda: "Dear Joyce, I'd like you to spend a week here with me. The location is well worth the journey – both Catullus and I can guarantee it!" Well we can't spend a week here but we can spend a day exploring the beautiful Italian countryside. We even take a boat trip to get a fisheye's view of the area.
Day 3 Photo day in Verona
Like other Italian cities Verona is steeped in history with something interesting to see around every corner, but unlike other Italian cities (that I have visited) it is actually quite small so you can easily get by without using public transport and spend the whole day wondering around marvelling, and photographing, all the historical buildings and quintessential Italian streets. And when you need to give your feet a rest there are plenty of places to stop for an espresso or, if you prefer something stronger, an Aperol Spritz.
Day 4 Travel to Rome
Around lunchtime we will leave Verona and take the train to Rome (3 hours). Once we arrive in Rome the afternoon is yours to start exploring, we will meet again for dinner. (Those booked on the Rome only workshop will join us for the evening meal.)
Day 5 Photo day in Rome
No mini tour to Italy would no be complete with a trip to Rome. Whether this is your first time or your 51st time there is so much to see, from the Spanish steps to the colosseum to the Vatican, every corner you turn there is a little, or big, piece of history. The only problem with Rome is trying to fit it all in! We will spend the whole day exploring as much as we can of this wonderful city. I can't wait to go back! After a tiring day we will sit down for one last dinner together.
Of course your time in Italy doesn't have to end there, you may wish to extend your time to explore Rome, or perhaps take a day trip to pompeii (approx 2 hours).
During the workshop we will discuss creating a group photobook. We will discuss how to take your photos, how to prepare them, also the importance of consistency and sequencing for maximum effect.
After the course you will have two weeks to submit your photos for the group photobook. Each person will have up to 30 sides in the book. These images should be in high resolution format and will be numbered in the sequence you wish them to appear. I will then layout and arrange for the book to be printed and delivered to you.
So often we just leave our photos on our computers, but there is something really special about having a look back at our photos in a beautiful photobook. I hope that if you haven't created a photobook before that this will encourage you to do it more often.
Here are some examples of the photo books I have produced for these trips previously.
The cost for the full trip is £619 per person but early bird bookers can receive £50 off.
We are also offering the option to just do either Verona & Lake Garda (£399pp) or Rome (£249pp). If you choose the Verona & Lake Garda workshop then Days 1-3 apply. If you chose the Rome only workshop then day 4 (evening meal) and 5 apply.
You can choose to pay the full amount now or a £75 deposit now and then the balance 6 weeks before the workshop for any of the options. Please make sure you read the Holiday T&Cs page before booking.
Included in the price is all tuition, your own copy of the photobook, *transfer to Lake Garda, *boat trip on Lake Garda and **transfer to Rome. The price does not include travel to/from Italy, accommodation or meals/drinks. I would recommend you stay not too far from where I will stay (TBC) as this will be our starting point will be each day. (*included for those booking the full trip or Verona/Lake Garda only.)

My style of teaching is relaxed and I will not be looking over your shoulder every two minutes to make sure you're doing it right. I give you space to be creative and enjoy your photography, but should you need me then I am on hand to help you achieve the shots you want. If you don't want or need any tuition at all, then that is fine too.
